Lightweight luggage
With the new fees imposed by airlines on air travel, it’s more important than ever to bring lightweight luggage to the airport with you. Airlines will now charge you for every bag you check, and charge you more for any bag over 50 lbs. this means that if you have a suitcase that weighs 20 lbs, you’re nearly halfway to having that second fee imposed!
The solution of course, is to ensure that you carry lightweight luggage. This doesn’t have to mean cutting corners. In fact some of the lightest suitcases are among the strongest and most secure. Instead of a solid steel frame, they can feature things like hollow steel; or even aluminum frames. The fabrics are a lighter, tighter weave as well.
Of course, lightweight luggage doesn’t work for everyone. If you’re planning on a two week vacation and don’t want to do any laundry you’d be hard pressed to get your packed items themselves under 50 lbs, much less your packed suitcase. In cases like this, it’s often better to pack as big a case as possible. The airline will charge you increasing fees for each checked bag, so one oversize bag can still be cheaper than multiple smaller ones.
